CBS Researcher puts sustainability on the school curriculum

“I wrote my Ph.D. on sustainable fashion, along with Mistra Future Fashion, and in the context of my field work I met a lot of different people, whom requested detailed material about exactly that” – says Kirsti Reitan Andersen, post-doc at CBS.

CBS Researcher Kirsti Reitan Andersen has produced a range of teaching material for public schools. The purpose is to educate students in sustainable fashion – and so far the feedback has been very positive.

In 8A’s classroom at Trekronerskolen in Roskilde, 20 students were expecting to learn about linguistics or arithmethics, but instead their teacher had decided that they were going to learn about sustainability. In a new initiative from the government, students will learn about sustainability for 2-3 weeks.

The three 8th grade classes have been divided into three teams which consist of metal, food and fashion teams. In 8A they are being taught in the latter, and the teaching material is brand new.

Kirsti Reitan Andersen says that the purpose of the material is to disseminate knowledge about sustainable fashion broader than it is now. The material is still under development, and Kirsti is examining further funding options.

In the development process, Kirsti Reitan Andersen received help from her Ph.D. Supervisor (and CBS-professor), Esben Rahbek Gjerdrum Pedersen. In addition, the filmmaker and designer Ana Diaz also left her imprint on both the form and content. Ana is, among other things, the woman behind some of the cartoons that make up part of the teaching material.
