Supply Chains Create Tomorrow’s Competitive Advantage
Supply chains are the backbone of the global economy. They connect suppliers, manufacturers, retailers, service providers, and consumers. Today, competitive advantage is created not only within individual organisations, but increasingly through the global supply chains of which they are a part. Supply chain management breaks down the barriers that have traditionally separated operations, logistics, procurement, IT, and strategic management, both within organisations and across organisational boundaries.
The role of the supply chain manager has become increasingly important. Current and former CEOs of leading organisations such as Apple, General Motors, LEGO, Maersk, and Procter & Gamble, as well as many service-sector companies, have backgrounds in operations and supply chain management.
As a result, supply chain management skills are in high demand across both private and public sector organisations and can open the door to careers in management, logistics, procurement, production, and business development.
