Your everyday life as a CBS student

You have a great deal of influence on what your everyday life at CBS will look like and what works best for you - meaning that daily life can take many different forms. You will have fewer hours with teaching, so it's up to you to balance studying with spare time and work.

Teaching and preparation for classes

On average, you will have about 12-14 hours of classes scheduled per week. In addition to the scheduled classes, you should also expect to spend around 25 hours per week preparing for exams and attending lectures.

More spare time creates obligations

You have the freedom to decide how and when you prepare. Therefore, your daily routine will be more flexible and demand more from you than you may be used to from the Upper Secondary school.

But remember that student life will bring you together with many inspiring people who may share your interests or encourage you to think and act in new ways.

Will I fit in?

It’s very normal to wonder about and perhaps be nervous about fitting in at a new place. When you start at CBS, you will be one among our more than 21,000 students. The CBS student population mirrors the rest of society, so you will encounter many different types of students. They come from all over Denmark and the rest of the world.

What you have in common with your fellow students is that you have been admitted to a study programme at CBS, where you can grow as a student and gain more knowledge in the academic areas that interest you.

New to CBS social life? We've got you

When you start studying at CBS, you will meet a lot of new people. You will become a part of social communities at campus and academic communities in your studies and across programmes. The best you can do is to be open to the opportunities you will meet.

CBS wants you to get off to a good start

At CBS we want you to feel part of our campus communities. We know how important it is to get a good start, and our students tell us that social communities play a central role in a rewarding student life. This is why you will meet current students as tutors during your first days.

They will help you get to know the campus and your fellow students in a safe and welcoming environment. There will be a range of activities that introduce you to your subjects and teaching as well as the social life on campus.

Finding communities on campus

Find a community in a student organisation

Engaging in an active student life at CBS is an easy way to increase your international network.

You can become a member of one of the more than 130 different student organisations at CBS. You can surely find one that matches your interests, for instance:

  • Paddle tennis, cycling and yoga
  • Sustainability, climate and literature
  • Creation, art and choir

And if you have a hobby that you would like to share with others, there is also ample opportunity for you to start your own student union.

Interested in student politics or student well being?

If you would like to have a more direct influence on the daily life of your studies, you can go into student politics at CBS or join the study board of your programme. Here there are committees focusing on well-being and quality of education.

Some programmes also have their own club, where you can help arrange social activities and parties for your fellow students. You can get a network by becoming a study start coordinator or guide and help onboard new students. Or you can join the CBS Case Competition each year. There are many possibilities.

“I really enjoy everyday life on campus. There are so many small and large communities to be part of. I am a member of CBS Yoga, a small yoga studio on campus. It is truly great to explore these student-driven communities created by students for students. ” Alicia

Find a community through group work

At CBS, collaboration and community are an important part of student life. In some courses, the teacher will place you in a group with other students, for example for class presentations or when you write an exam paper together. In other courses, you will form your own groups. Finding students who share your academic interests can be a real advantage, and it is not always the best choice to work with your closest friends.

Study groups on your terms

Many students also choose to form voluntary study groups during the semester or ahead of exams. These groups can be used to share knowledge, discuss ideas and solve tasks together. At the same time, you can choose to work independently in courses where group work is optional and where that suits you better.

Building communities in and outside the classroom

Communities matter both socially and academically. Classes at CBS can be large, and you may not know many people at the beginning. Group work gives you the opportunity to get to know your fellow students and perhaps even find a new work bestie. When working in groups, you share responsibility for reaching your goals together, which means being willing to take initiative and engage with others.

An international campus experience

CBS is also an international campus. With more than 21,000 students, you will meet people from all over the world. Students, professors and employees represent more than 50 nationalities, and hearing different languages on campus is part of everyday life. Through group work, teaching and student activities, you gain experience working in intercultural settings and build an international network that can stay with you beyond your studies.
