Lending rules
The library at CBS is a public library, and all collections are open to everyone. We also provide study seats available for non-CBS users. You may borrow as much as you like, but we kindly ask that you return the materials on time.
Fees for exceeding the loan period
1–7 days: DKK 5 per item
8–30 days: DKK 25 per item
31–34 days: DKK 50 per item
More than 34 days: An invoice will be issued for the borrowed items. This includes the fees plus a DKK 150 invoicing charge and the replacement cost of the material.
If your fees exceed DKK 200, your library account will be blocked until the amount has been paid.
Rules for using the library
Library card
Anyone over 18 with a permanent address in Denmark can register as a library user at CBS Library & Academic Services. Registration requires MitID.
Add an active email address to receive messages from the library. All notifications will be sent to the registered email address and will not be resent if the address is incorrect.
Your national health card serves as your library card. Create a four-digit PIN code to log in at the library’s self-service machines.
All CBS students and employees are automatically registered in the library’s user database at the start of their studies or employment at CBS. CBS students can also use their student card as a library card. If, against expectations, you are not registered, please contact the library.
Add your email address and create your PIN code here.
By registering for a library account, you agree to comply with the current library regulations. The library account is personal, and the account holder is responsible for all materials borrowed under that account.
A library account that has been inactive for two years will be closed and deleted from the library’s database unless there are outstanding payments linked to it.

Loans and renewals
Loan period
The standard loan period for books is 28 days. However, if a book is reserved by another user at the time of borrowing, the loan period is reduced to 14 days. The loan period for journals, video material and DVDs is 14 days.
The loan period for each item is always stated on your loan receipt.
Renewing your loans
If an item is not reserved by anyone else, you may renew your loan for a total period of up to three months. Renew your loans online in Libsearch.
Loans from other libraries
We are happy to obtain materials from other libraries for CBS employees and students. The loan period is determined by the lending library. A fee of up to DKK 10 per item may apply for materials borrowed from foreign libraries.

Fees and replacement costs
If you do not return items by the end of the loan period, a fee will be charged for each item. You are responsible for keeping track of your due dates.
1–7 days: DKK 5 per item
8–30 days: DKK 25 per item
31–34 days: DKK 50 per item
If you exceed the loan period by more than 34 days, an invoice will be sent to you. It will include a late return fee of DKK 50, an invoicing charge of DKK 150, and the replacement cost of the item.
If you return the material, the replacement cost will be cancelled, and you will only need to pay the fee and the invoicing charge.
If the material has been lost, you must pay the late return fee, the invoicing charge and the replacement cost.
Invoices and replacement claims will be sent to your Digital Post (e-Boks) or by post to your registered address.
Notifications regarding due dates, reminders and reserved items ready for collection are sent only to the email address you have registered.
Borrowing restrictions
If your outstanding balance is DKK 200 or more, your borrowing rights will automatically be blocked until the amount is paid.
Debt collection via the Danish Debt Collection Agency
If borrowed items are still not returned after replacement invoices have been issued, the library will send two warnings before the case is transferred to debt collection through the Danish Debt Collection Agency (Gældsstyrelsen). They will add a handling fee to the total amount. Once the case has been transferred, all payments and further contact must take place directly between the borrower and the Danish Debt Collection Agency.
Use of online resources
CBS employees and students have access to most of the library’s online resources and electronic journals, both on and off campus.
Other users may access most online resources by visiting the library. However, some online resources have restricted access and require a CBS username and password to view the content.
Use of online resources
- Your CBS username and password serve as your login credentials. They are strictly personal and must not be shared with others.
- You may use the online resources for your studies and/or research at CBS, or for other private, non-commercial purposes. You may not use the resources in connection with student jobs, other employment, affiliation with another educational institution or for any commercial purpose.
- Commercial exploitation of data, systematic downloading of large data volumes – including complete books or entire journals – as well as storage of data is not permitted.
- All traffic related to the use of the library’s online resources is logged by both the data provider and CBS to ensure system operation and prevent misuse.
- If CBS IT, the library or the data provider detects misuse, access will be suspended, and the user may be invited for a meeting.
- Copyright for all materials must be respected.
Sharing of online resources
- You may download and print texts from the library’s online resources, but only for personal use.
- You may share links to materials, but you may not share full-text files or PDFs via email, upload them to Facebook, ResearchGate, X or similar platforms, nor store the material on shared drives – whether on CBS drives, Canvas or cloud solutions such as Dropbox. This applies both to sharing with other CBS students or colleagues as well as with people outside CBS.
- Full-text files downloaded from CBS licensed online resources – except those freely available online – may not be included as appendices in project reports or similar documents.
- Text and data mining is not permitted. Please contact the library as we may be able to help you find a suitable solution.
Conduct, food and beverages
You are welcome to eat fruit, biscuits, sweets and similar snacks in the library, but meals and alcoholic beverages are not permitted.
There are mobile zones on the 1st and 2nd floors where you may make phone calls.
Conversations are not allowed at the library’s study seats. Group work may only take place in the library’s group rooms or in the group areas on the lower ground floor.
A library user who fails to follow the regulations, maintain a quiet and respectful environment, or disregards staff instructions may be asked to leave the library. Repeated violations may result in exclusion.
Study seats and group rooms
The study seats on the ground floor and lower ground floor are available to all library users and cannot be reserved.
Other study seats and group rooms can only be booked by CBS students via my.cbs.dk. Unoccupied seats may be used by anyone but must be vacated if a CBS student has a valid reservation.
From 18:00 onwards, the library is considered a reading room reserved for CBS students and employees. A security guard on patrol may ask to see a valid CBS student ID card or access card.
Lockers
There are three types of lockers available for storing personal belongings and borrowed materials at the library.
- Daily use: On the lower ground floor, there are lockers with PIN codes. These are emptied every morning between 7:00 and 7:30.
- Four-week loan: Keys for the lockers on the 1st and 2nd floors, as well as in Dalgas Have can be borrowed at the librarian's desk. If the key has not been returned within 35 days after the loan period has expired, we will empty the locker and issue an invoice of DKK 100 for lock replacement and a DKK 150 invoicing fee.
- At the study spaces, there are built-in lockers in the desks. These must be emptied when you are no longer using the space.
Check out and Check in
The library’s extensive collection of books and journals is located at Solbjerg Plads. This is also where you can borrow and return materials.
