BOOK LAUNCH AND RESEARCH TALK ON DESIGN, BY PROFESSOR MSO BO T. CHRISTENSEN

A Kyoto-Copenhagen Workshop on Design Entrepreneurship

Monday, September 25, 2017 - 12:00 to 16:30

Professor MSO Bo T. Christensen will give a talk on the topic of ‘Using Shared Video to Study In-field Team-based Designing’.
In 2016, Professor MSO Bo T. Christensen chaired a pioneering data-sharing event, the Design Thinking Research Symposium 11 (DTRS11). For DTRS11, a vast amount of qualitative video-data of a professional design team working for a European car manufacturer was collected over 4 months, transcribed, and shared with 28 international research teams. All teams analyzed the video-data from their disciplinary perspectives using a variety of both quantitative and qualitative methods, leading to 28 symposium proceedings, a 30 chapter edited book, and two forthcoming journal special issues focusing on ‘designing in the wild’ (in the journal Design Studies), and on ‘designing across cultures’ (in the journal CoDesign). DTRS11 successfully illustrated that a singular collected video-based dataset affords a multitude of different disciplinary analyses, both inductive and deductive in nature.

The talk simultaneously marks the DTRS11 book launch of the resulting book volume:
