I am very pleased to welcome Dr. Szilvia Gyimóthy as Associate Professor in the Department of Marketing.

Szilvia obtained her Ph.D. in Tourism Management from Anglia Ruskin University. Since then, she has held positions at the Centre for Regional and Tourism Research, Lund University (Department of Service Management) and Aalborg University (Department of Culture & Global Studies).

Szilvia’s research expertise rests in the intersection of strategic market communication, tourism geography, and consumer culture studies, with a particular focus on place marketing. She is an internationally acclaimed scholar in tourism branding and place-making, with well-cited publications in highly ranked AJG and tourism journals (including Annals of Tourism Research, Tourism Management, and Journal of Travel Research). She has published three co-edited volumes on transformational place-marketing practices, ranging from collaborative economy disruptions to Nordic place branding, and she has received Elsevier’s “Outstanding Author Contribution” award in 2013. Szilvia has acted as invited keynote speaker at international conferences, including Tomorrow’s Urban Travel, TIDES, and IGU’s Tourism Shaping Places. She is on the editorial board of Scandinavian Journal of Tourism & Hospitality and scientific committee member of several high-profile international tourism conferences (ATLAS, ENTER-IFITT, NORTHORS).

Szilvia’s teaching endeavours and knowledge collaboration initiatives have generated extensive impacts within and beyond academia. During her academic career, she has supervised four Ph.D. students and refined problem-based teaching in tourism. She has actively contributed to pioneer and consolidate the master programs in Service Management and Tourism and has successfully completed externally funded research projects with tourism planners and marketing practitioners. Her and Anette Therkelsen’s joint achievements within the Innocoast Program were nominated for the Danish Innovation Fund’s Grand Solutions Award.
