Primary research areas

How individuals and organizations foster societal change

My research looks at how to trigger (or prevent) societal-level change. I am interested in how verbal language, visual communication, and materiality can be used deliberately to shape organizations, sectors, and societies.

How academic research comes to have societal impact

I investigate, in collaboration with the rest of the TITAN team, how managers and consultants translate academic research into managerial practice. We also consider the implications for our ability to trace the societal impact of organization and management research.

How AI changes organizational research

In collaboration with colleagues, I investigate how AI performs different research tasks. We consider implications for the academic profession.

I produce actionable insights for change managers

Organizational Change

My research equips managers and leaders with insights on how to foster lasting change in organizations. It produces insights on how verbal language can be used most effectively to mobilize support for change and how organizational members translate ideas into organizational practices. I also shed light on what role visual communication plays in these processes, and how to use materiality, such as building design, to make a difference.  Reversely, my research is also useful for organizational members and leaders motivated to stall change initiatives that they consider undesirable.

Societal Change

I am most passionate about the relationship between organizational change and societal change. My research offers insights on how individuals use the societal context to foster organizational change. It also sheds light on how, and when, managers and leaders best proceed to spread their ideas more broadly to stimulate societal change.

Societal Impact

My research with the TITAN team can be used to trace the societal impact of organizational and management research. It sheds light on the gradual translation processes through which managers and consultants transform academic knowledge products into organizational practices. Academic references are often lost along the way, and the terminology may change. Our research can be used to design better ways to trace societal impact. It can also help researchers improve their academic knowledge production and dissemination in view of enhancing its traceability when societal impact arises.

Recent research projects

TITAN: Turning Theory into Action

TITAN traces academic knowledge products from conception, via teaching or consulting, to practical use in Danish companies. We identify how they impact organizations, and ultimately society.
