EU Climate Law and the External Regulation of Carbon Markets

I am interested in how EU climate law governs the external recognition and regulation of carbon markets, particularly through instruments such as the CBAM. My research focuses on the interaction between EU and emerging economies' carbon systems and the broader implications of transnational climate regulation for global markets and governance.

Energy Transition and Renewable Energy Governance

My interests include the legal governance of the energy transition particularly the role of renewable energy regulation, supply chains and market-based instruments in supporting decarbonization. I also examine how EU climate and energy policies interact with trade and sustainability objectives in transnational contexts.

Understanding how EU Climate Regulation reshapes carbon markets and corporate supply chains

My research focuses on the interaction between EU climate regulation, international trade, and sustainability-driven economic transitions, with particular attention to the legal classification and extraterritorial regulation of carbon market instruments. A central aspect of my work concerns how evolving climate regulation affects Brazilian carbon markets, supply chains, and the regulatory challenges faced by companies operating across jurisdictions.

More broadly, I examine how EU climate law reshapes carbon markets and transnational climate governance, particularly through instruments such as the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). My research also explores pathways toward greater regulatory coherence between EU climate regulation and emerging carbon market jurisdictions.

Before joining CBS, I worked as an attorney in Brazil and Portugal. I hold an LL.M. in International Law from the Université catholique de Louvain in Belgium, a joint master’s degree from the Universities of Zurich and Lausanne in Switzerland, and a Master’s degree in International Trade Law from Lund University in Sweden.
