Professor Lars Thøger Christensen, MSC, receives The Frederic M. Jablin Award
in recognition of his contributions to organizational communication scholarship and beyond
At the International Communication Association’s annual conference held in Cape Town June 3-8 2026, Professor Lars Thøger Christensen was awarded The Frederic M. Jablin Award for Outstanding Contributions to Organizational Communication.
The award, named after Jepson professor Dr. Fredric M. Jablin (1952-2004), is given annually to a member of the organizational communication division who has made significant contributions to the field over a life-time career. Lars Thøger Christensen was chosen for this year’s award by a committee consisting of division members Boris Brummans, Jean Saludadez, and Timothy Kuhn.
The committee emphasized that Lars Thøger Christensen has made foundational and sustained contributions to organizational communication scholarship and beyond over more than three decades, shaping understandings of organizational identity, transparency and talk-action dynamics in ways that bridge disciplinary and institutional boundaries. In particular, the committee highlighted Professor Christensen’s counter-intuitive and widely cited work on aspirational talk, that is, the notion that bold organizational claims have performative potential if mobilized by critical stakeholders, including organizational members.
