The organization of museums and the museums of organization

This seminar consists of the presentation of an empirical study on the planning process of a new museum in a Swiss, medium-sized town. This paper on the organization of museum can, however, not be disconnected from inquiring into the strong relationship between the (history of) museums and (the history of) organization. Within the museum of organization theory, the concept of museum allows not only to open up for many classic and new themes in organization studies, but also to acknowledge how the organization concept of the museum plays an ever increasing iconic and controversial role in urban imagineering.
