Governments are strategists when it comes to Global Strategy research
New article in Global Strategy Journal: When governments act as strategists - Geopolitical turmoil and global strategy theory
In this 'point-counterpoint conversation' paper, Ari van Assche and Thomas Lindner argue that traditional theories in global strategy research insufficiently consider the agency of governments. In times of proactive governments taking initiative in economic matters – sometimes targeting individual firms or even individual investments – global strategy research needs to move from considering governments as passive setters of rules towards considering governments as utility-maximizing agents in a similar way as firms.
