Find the lead­ing journ­als

Journal Citation Reports covers leading international journals and includes more than 6,500 titles within Economics & Business and Social Sciences, General. These two categories include subjects such as law, ethics, public administration, communication, development studies, political science, women’s studies and anthropology.

How to see rankings by subject area

  1. Click Categories
  2. Choose a broad subject, for example "Economics & Business"
  3. Select a more specific subject for which you want to see rankings, such as "Business, Finance"

The lists are sorted by highest JIF, but can also be sorted by JCI (journal citation indicator) or total citation count.

Investigate a specific journal

If you want to look up a journal’s JIF or ranking within a subject area, follow these steps:

Enter the journal name in the search field, click the title and see an overview of:

  • The proportion of articles published Open Access
  • The journal’s rank within its subject category
  • Which other journals frequently cite articles from this journal

When is JCR useful?

The database is primarily used to find a journal’s impact factor (JIF) and to identify the most cited journals within a field.

  • Researchers use it as part of their publication strategy.
  • Students can use it to identify key journals and target their search for peer-reviewed articles published in those journals.
