The Artist-Scientist Manager - A contemporary opportunity in education
Seminar with Holm Keller, M.A., MPA (Harvard)
One substantial issue with the formalization of higher education was an arbitrary line drawn between Science, Applied Arts (like Business), and the Practice of Arts as such. The current debate on re-reforming the Bologna system offers an opportunity in this field, for those institutes of Higher Education willing to take on many challenges.
After formative years as composer Holm Keller attended the Harvard Kennedy School for public administration. From then on Holm has combined high profile work in management and administration and projects carried out in close cooperation with world class artists. After working as the dramaturge of Robert Wilson he wrote one of the best books showing how the artist/director has in fact successfully managed his artwork in the spirit of latest industrial practices of production. In interaction with architect Daniel Libeskind he has staged management education programs at St Gallen University and at the university of Lüneburg where Holm is currently vice president.
Holm Keller’s professional biography focuses on this conversion of Art, Science, and Business. Originally a musical composer, he worked with Robert M. Wilson and many other distinguishes artists as a dramaturge for over 12 years, he spend 7 years on the regular consulting track at McKinsey & Company. Currently, he serves as Executive Vice President and Chancellor at Leuphana University in Northern Germany.
