PhD defence: Xiaochun Guo
Drawing upon various theories of money and applying both qualitative and quantitative methods, this dissertation explores the dynamic roles of digital currencies, particularly cryptocurrencies, through interactive processes with existing systems along the development path. The thesis consists of four research papers, and the analysis contributes to: 1) the evolution of money and digital currency as a social phenomenon; 2) the governance of digital currency by engaging the role of states in different regions; 3) the empirical understandings of the cryptocurrency market dynamics.
