What is Preqin?
Preqin is a global financial database specialised in alternative investments such as private equity, hedge funds, infrastructure and real estate.
The platform contains detailed data on funds, investors, portfolios, performance and fundraising, as well as analyses of market trends.
Preqin covers both historical and current data and is widely used in the financial sector to understand developments in private markets.
When is Preqin useful?
Preqin is a key tool for empirical research in financing and investment, especially outside traditional equity markets. It is particularly relevant if you want to:
- Examine corporate finance, private equity and capital market analysis
- Study funds, investors and return patterns within alternative assets
- Analyse fundraising, market size and investment flows globally
- Use reliable and structured data for empirical finance studies and benchmarking

No access to the Venture Deals and the Fund Terms modules.
The Private Equity Module
The library provides access to the Private Equity module. It gives an overview of the entire private equity industry. The module contains seven submodules focused on funds and their performance, as well as profiles of active institutional investors.
The ESG Module
Access to the ESG module provides an overview of ESG across private markets. The module includes several submodules focused on wealth managers and investors, their policies and practices, disclosure and links to frameworks such as the SDGs, the EU taxonomy and SASB. It also includes profiles and benchmarking tools for screening, due diligence and reporting.
The Infrastructure module
This module provides an overview of the entire infrastructure market. It contains submodules on funds and wealth managers, fundraising and performance, as well as deals and assets across segments such as energy, transportation, utilities and telecoms. It also contains profiles of active institutional investors to support sourcing, benchmarking and targeted investor outreach.

Combine criteria
In "Advanced Search" you can combine different search criteria such as name, fund type, industry affiliation, fund size and more.
Download/eksport
Depending on the search results, it is possible to download to Excel, Word or PDF or print.
The icon is usually located at the top right of the screen.
Avoid being locked out of Preqin
Preqin may trigger a Captcha warning if you open too many pages (more than 20 in one minute) or several tabs at the same time. The system may then assume you are using a bot.
