What is Preqin?

Preqin is a global financial database specialised in alternative investments such as private equity, hedge funds, infrastructure and real estate. 

The platform contains detailed data on funds, investors, portfolios, performance and fundraising, as well as analyses of market trends. 

Preqin covers both historical and current data and is widely used in the financial sector to understand developments in private markets.

When is Preqin useful?

Preqin is a key tool for empirical research in financing and investment, especially outside traditional equity markets. It is particularly relevant if you want to:

  • Examine corporate finance, private equity and capital market analysis
  • Study funds, investors and return patterns within alternative assets
  • Analyse fundraising, market size and investment flows globally
  • Use reliable and structured data for empirical finance studies and benchmarking

The Private Equity Mod­ule
The lib­rary provides ac­cess to the Private Equity mod­ule. It gives an over­view of the en­tire private equity in­dustry. The mod­ule con­tains sev­en sub­mod­ules fo­cused on funds and their per­form­ance, as well as pro­files of act­ive in­sti­tu­tion­al in­vestors.
The ESG Mod­ule
Ac­cess to the ESG mod­ule provides an over­view of ESG across private mar­kets. The mod­ule in­cludes sev­er­al sub­mod­ules fo­cused on wealth man­agers and in­vestors, their policies and prac­tices, dis­clos­ure and links to frame­works such as the SDGs, the EU tax­onomy and SASB. It also in­cludes pro­files and bench­mark­ing tools for screen­ing, due di­li­gence and re­port­ing.
The In­fra­struc­ture mod­ule
This mod­ule provides an over­view of the en­tire in­fra­struc­ture mar­ket. It con­tains sub­mod­ules on funds and wealth man­agers, fun­drais­ing and per­form­ance, as well as deals and as­sets across seg­ments such as en­ergy, trans­port­a­tion, util­it­ies and tele­coms. It also con­tains pro­files of act­ive in­sti­tu­tion­al in­vestors to sup­port sourcing, bench­mark­ing and tar­geted in­vestor out­reach.
