What is NVivo?

NVivo is a software tool used for qualitative analysis of text, audio, video and image data. It helps you organise, code and analyse large amounts of non-numerical data such as interviews, questionnaires, documents or observations.

NVivo supports a systematic and transparent approach to qualitative data. Through coding, you can make sense of your material and identify patterns and connections.

Qualitative data types

NVivo supports both unstructured data, such as text, images and audio and semi-structured data, such as surveys and emails.

Terms of use

The software may not be used for paid research projects, commissioned reports, administrative work or any situation involving a supplier–client relationship.

When is NVivo useful?

NVivo is especially helpful when you want to identify themes, patterns and relationships in complex data and ensure a systematic, transparent analysis process in qualitative studies. It is relevant when working with interviews, written testimonies, documentary images and audio material, and netnography.

How to get a licence key for NVivo

Send an email from your CBS account to nvivo@cbs.dk with the subject line “NVivo license request”.
You will receive an email with a download link and your licence key. 
Once the licence is activated, no further login is needed.

Renewing your licence

The licence key changes every year on 1 January. To get the new key, simply repeat the same procedure.
If your licence expires temporarily, your data will not be affected.
