Career – Unfiltered: My ambitions are not about job titles, but about growing the business
Working life is full of doubt, detours, and dreams. In the article series Career – Unfiltered, participants from CBS Executive Education share an honest look into their working lives and reflect on both the ups and downs. This time, meet Line Bay Skovsgaard – Sales & Marketing Manager at BAYVOGN and a CBS Graduate Diploma (HD) alumni.
What motivates you most in your role?
"Without a doubt, it’s the people. I’m motivated by delivering products that are actually used and create value for our customers in their day-to-day lives. Knowing that our solutions make a positive difference to their workflows gives me immense satisfaction."
When is your work most challenging?
"The biggest challenge right now is the unpredictable market we operate in. Rising prices and longer lead times from suppliers affect our own delivery times and processes. This places higher demands on planning, communication, and ongoing dialogue to ensure expectations are aligned correctly."
When do you feel most in doubt in your work?
"On a daily basis, I primarily work with management and sales in a manufacturing company where many decisions have to be made continually. Sometimes you can be in doubt about which solution is the right one, but that’s a natural part of the responsibility. Experience has taught me that the most important thing is often to make a swift decision based on gut feeling, maintain an honest dialogue with the people involved, and then act on it."
Which choice has been most significant for your career – and why?
"The decision that had the biggest impact on my career was moving to Germany to work. Starting out in a new country without a network and without fully mastering the language gave me valuable personal growth and has helped shape both who I am as a person and my career to where I am today."
“I'm not motivated by title or salary. For me, working life is about people and about creating value.” Line Bay Skovsgaard
Sales and marketing manager BAYVOGN
What do you do differently today compared to before you started at CBS?
"That’s a question that can be hard to answer unequivocally because so much happened during the four years I studied HD part-time alongside a full-time job. Some of the most important takeaways for me are the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. The programme has greatly contributed to my personal development and given me tools to work in a more structured way and see things from a broader perspective."
What would you like to learn more about – and what are your professional ambitions?
"There are still many skills I’d like to develop within the areas I work in today. I believe that you can always improve, and that growth often comes through experience, curiosity, and persistence."
"Career-wise, I’m currently in a role that I really thrive in. My ambitions are not about titles, but about growing the business, driving growth, and increasing our market share."
What has your work taught you about yourself – one good thing and one bad thing?
"Over recent years, I’ve become more aware that I thrive best with a varied workday and people around me. I’m motivated by collaboration, sparring, and a diverse range of tasks, whereas repetitive work or too much alone time can drain my energy. Depending on the task at hand, that can be both a strength and a challenge."
What do you hope your working life will have given you in 10 years – beyond job title and salary?
"I'm not motivated by title or salary. For me, working life is about people and about creating value through our products and solutions that benefit others. In 10 years, I hope I will have helped develop the company to a completely different place than where we are today, that we have strengthened our market position, and that we have expanded into new markets."
