Tech­no­logy and Smart Homes
I study how ideals of home and do­mest­ic space are trans­formed when every­day ob­jects and prac­tices be­come “smart” and data-driv­en. I’m in­ter­ested in the way smart and con­nec­ted tech­no­logy shape and or­gan­ize do­mest­ic space as a so­cially ima­gined and ma­ter­i­ally con­struc­ted space.
So­cial the­ory of con­sump­tion
I am in­ter­ested in the in­flu­lence of di­git­al tech­no­logy and plat­forms on con­sump­tion and in­ter­acta­tion with products and me­dia con­tent. I fo­cus on de­vel­op­ing so­cial the­or­et­ic­al no­tions of con­sump­tion in light of the in­ter­sec­tion between tech­no­logy, cul­ture and con­sump­tion.

Digital technology and platforms are reshaping many aspects of contemporary social life. My research is motivated by describing and theorizing such transformations. I’m currently part of ‘The Data Driven Home’ research project where I study commercial and public visions and perceptions of home in relation to the notion of ‘smart homes’. I specifically explore how smart, connected, and data-driven technologies create new relations to and between objects in domestic space. With a background in social science and philosophy I work with concepts from social theory, philosophy of technology, anthropology, and organization studies as ways to explore the intersection between technology, culture, and consumption in contemporary society.

The pro­ject, led by Prof. An­drej Sav­in and fun­ded by the In­de­pend­ent Re­search Fund Den­mark, study how smart home tech­no­lo­gies and data trans­form home as a so­cio-ma­ter­i­al and leg­ally con­struc­ted space.
