Primary research areas

Technology and Smart Homes

I study how ideals of home and domestic space are transformed when everyday objects and practices become “smart” and data-driven. I’m interested in the way smart and connected technology shape and organize domestic space as a socially imagined and materially constructed space.

Social theory of consumption

I am interested in the influlence of digital technology and platforms on consumption and interactation with products and media content. I focus on developing social theoretical notions of consumption in light of the intersection between technology, culture and consumption.

I study how technology and consumption shape and organize social life

Digital technology and platforms are reshaping many aspects of contemporary social life. My research is motivated by describing and theorizing such transformations. I’m currently part of ‘The Data Driven Home’ research project where I study commercial and public visions and perceptions of home in relation to the notion of ‘smart homes’. I specifically explore how smart, connected, and data-driven technologies create new relations to and between objects in domestic space. With a background in social science and philosophy I work with concepts from social theory, philosophy of technology, anthropology, and organization studies as ways to explore the intersection between technology, culture, and consumption in contemporary society.
