Erik Braun is Associate Professor of Marketing and Tourism at the Department of Marketing and joined CBS in 2019. Erik holds an M.Sc. in Economics & Business (with distinction) and a Ph.D. in City Marketing from Erasmus University Rotterdam. Erik is one of the first scholars to publish on city marketing and has also published in city branding. Erik prioritises the effectiveness of place branding strategies and the interplay between private and public sector stakeholders in managing and communicating place brands in an increasingly competitive and digital marketplace.

In his tourism research, the focus is on using big data to understand tourism behaviour (revealed preferences), tourists' perceptions, and more effective tourism management (e.g. over-tourism) while also including social and psychological effects and attitudes in extraordinary (crisis) situations.

Erik’s work has been published in top journals such as Tourism Management, Public Administration Review and Urban Studies.
