I explore the accountability of companies for social and environmental outcomes
I explore fundamental questions about how society holds companies accountable for the social and environmental impact of their actions and inactions, with implications for both managers and policy makers. There is an inherent tension between societal goals, where managers are expected to be competitive and compassionate at the same time and companies must earn profits while contributing to making the world a better place (or avoid making it worse). These tradeoffs are not well understood and by applying the rigor of mathematical modeling my research helps managers navigate these issues and gives policy makers guidance about when and how to regulate companies.
