Communicative practices
Drawing on sociology, semiotics, organization, and the philosophy of language I am particularly interested in how and why organizations engage in communicative practices such as autocommunication, aspirational talk, hypocrisy, and bullshit.
Transparency and visibility
I study transparency theory and transparency practices with a particular emphasis on how transparency proxies, such as visibility, can create both insight and opacity.
CSR and Sustainability
I apply my thinking to areas such as corporate social responsibility and sustainability, where social expectations for consistency between talk and action are most pronounced.
Responsible leadership
I am interested in how responsible leadership is constituted in communicative practices of accountability.
I challenge conventional assumptions.
My research helps understand:
- Why organizations often fail to practice what they preach.
- The different roles greenwashing can play for organizations and society.
- How organizations present themselves through the voices of employees.
- Why transparency initiatives and practices sometimes hide more than they reveal.
