My Research

I have joined CBS as an Associate Professor for Business History in 2008, after having worked for eight years as Assistant and Associate Professor (non-tenured) for Economic and Social History at the Department of Economics, University of Cologne. Previously, I have studied Modern History, Eastern European History, German Philology, and Philosophy at University of Münster and have earned my Dr. phil. at University of Bielefeld (Economic History) in 1999.

In the field of Business History I am particularly interested in Corporate Governance, Organizational Change, and Entrepreneurship and Innovation. In the field of Economic History I employ predominantly, but not exclusively qualitative historical approaches enriched by perspectives from Economic Sociology and Political Economy, I am particularly interested in economic and institutional change in 19th and 20th centuries across Europe, and in the Evolution and Change of Social Orders.
