Green Research at CBS
Find an expert
Green office has developed the Green List, a curated overview of CBS research and researchers focusing on sustainability related topics. This list aims to highlight green research at CBS, provide a comprehensive overview of the many different focus areas, and showcase the researchers working within them.
Additionally, we hope the list will serve as a point of connection for those interested in collaborating—both internally at CBS and with external partners—on green topics.
Center for Greener Business (Pre-project)
The Center for Greener Business is a pre-project at the Green Office funded by Industriens Fond that explores how researchers can better communicate knowledge to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) working with green business. It focuses on identifying key barriers and incentive structures for effective knowledge sharing. The overall aim is to understand how CBS and other Danish universities can improve the communication of research and expertise relevant to green business. At the same time, the project examines how this knowledge can support SMEs’ innovation, strengthen sustainability efforts, and enhance competitiveness.

Economy and Planetary Boundaries Initiative
The CBS Green Office leads this project, supported by the KR Foundation, exploring the potential for establishing a national collaboration platform to advance green economics in research and education—particularly economic perspectives that integrate planetary boundaries. The project aims to assess cross-institutional interest, identify relevant researchers, and outline a conceptual framework, key focus areas, and potential collaborative activities.

External partners
CBS Green Office is responsible external partnerships aimed at supporting CBS researchers within the field of green transition—particularly in accessing funding opportunities and strengthening the impact of research projects.
Green Office collaborates with CLEAN, Denmark’s green business cluster. Through this membership, CBS researchers gain access to a strong network of companies, public actors, and knowledge institutions, as well as opportunities for project development, funding calls, and innovation partnerships within the green transition.
In addition, Green Office has established a collaboration with Gate 21, a partnership between municipalities, regions, companies, and knowledge institutions working together to drive climate action. Gate 21 strengthens partners’ green competencies, supports innovation and scaling, and enables collaboration across sectors to accelerate the transition towards a climate-neutral and circular society.

CBS Campus Sustainability Programme
The mission of the CBS Campus Sustainability Programme is to implement the approved campus sustainability strategy and a matching profile with specified goals initiatives.
Simultaneously, the CBS Campus Sustainability Programme wants to include campus users in the green conversion of campus. Thus it will be possible for campus users to register minor projects to be implemented continuously.
The project is led by CBS Campus Services and was launched in 2020.
CBS Campus Sustainability Programme has an ambition to prioritise and ensure synergy between initiatives based on ‘green cases’ which evaluate potential projects as to their impact on the social, economic and environmental aspects of sustainability.
If you wish to know more or have project proposals you are welcome to contact:

Permahaven – the first permaculture garden at a Danish university
‘Permahaven’ is a permaculture garden on the grounds of Copenhagen Business School (CBS) campus’ ‘Klimahaven’, next to the Water Tower in front of Nordre Fasanvej Metro Station. Permahaven serves as a hub for learning and communicating about sustainability where the local community can share their knowledge among themselves and contribute to increasing biodiversity and well-being in the municipality, side by side with CBS students and staff. CBS is one of Scandinavia’s largest business schools, whose main building has been located in Frederiksberg since 2000 and is a permanent part of Frederiksberg’s cityscape. The project consists of three main elements: lifelong learning, biodiversity and well-being.
‘Permahaven’ creates a framework for knowledge sharing about sustainability between CBS students and staff and the local community, inspired by permaculture thinking. Permahaven also strengthens biodiversity and the green corridors in Frederiksberg Municipality as well as increases well-being among the above groups. Why: CBS Campus has a great biodiversity potential if more campus square meters are used for green purposes in line with FRB Municipality’s Biodiversity Strategy. Permahaven also contributes to opening up CBS campus to the local community by enabling voluntary collaboration between CBS actors and various local groups such as children’s and elderly institutions, ethnic minorities and the unemployed. CBS theoretical knowledge about sustainability that can, through Permahaven, be wider communicated to local communities.
The Permahaven project has been kindly supported by Frederiksberg Fonden.
