In order to obtain the PhD degree, Laura Krumm has submitted her thesis entitled:

Exploring the Relationship Between Pro-Environmental Behavior and Subjective Well-Being:
The Roles of Environmental Impact, Intentionality, and Personal Costs

This dissertation examines the relationship between pro-environmental behavior (PEB) and subjective well-being (SWB). While prior research has broadly characterized this link as positive, the full picture is more nuanced. Drawing on a meta-analytic synthesis, a large-scale European survey dataset, and an original German survey study, the dissertation explores this relationship across three empirical articles. The first establishes the overall association and examines how it varies with the environmental impact of the behaviors. The second investigates personal costs and environmental intentionality as moderators. The third builds on this by moving from the magnitude of costs to their specific types and examines how they relate to public acceptance of climate policies. The results highlight the complexity of the association between PEB and SWB, introducing a more nuanced picture by showing the relevance of impact, intentionality, and costs. Taken together, these findings have practical relevance for the design and communication of climate policies and behavior-change interventions.

The thesis will be available from research.cbs.dk

The CBS PhD School will host a reception, which will take place immediately after the defence.
