Course content

In this course, students learn to conduct empirical research that builds on knowledge and insights from first year SOL courses and that offers recommendations for organizational practice. With guidance from a supervisor, students develop a business project that includes formulation of a research question, independent literature search, collection and analysis of empirical data, and discussion of the implications of the findings for organizational practice. The course provides students with experience in conducting empirical research that can support their Master thesis efforts in second year.

What you will learn

Define a complex organizational problem and explain how it can be examined through a coherent research design.
Find academic literature in the domains of strategy, organization, and leadership related to the problem definition.
Justify the choice of empirical setting, data sources and methods for data collection and analysis, acknowledging their benefits and limitations.
Explain the main findings of the study and critically reflect on how the study and the project report could be improved.
Articulate recommendations for practice based on the findings and elaborate on how they could be implemented in an organizational setting.
