Organizing for Absence: The undiagnosable

My research aims to investigate how organizational structures and actors in healthcare coordinate work in the absence of straightoforward diagnoses, where diagnoses are not possible, or where treatment precedes diagnosis. Diagnosis plays a central role in organizing treatment, but the increasing standardization of the Danish healthcare system poses consequences for patients with symptoms that do not fit neatly into diagnoses, pathways, or specialities. Here, I wish to explore how the system works with and around undiagnosed patients by using a qualitative-dominant research design.
