Jane Bjørn Vedel

Jane Bjørn Vedel is an organization and management scholar who theorizes what happens at the boundaries between fields: how executives strategically respond to field change, how organizations learn, adapt, and negotiate as their field changes, and how fields are transformed through interaction with other fields. She studies these questions within one primary domain: the pharma industry, basic and translational biomedical research, and large-scale philanthropy for global health. Her current work examines how universities receiving some of the largest research donations of our time reorganize as their field changes; earlier, she examined how pharmaceutical executives responded to fundamental shifts in their field. Vedel is principal investigator of two large research projects, has held visiting positions at Stanford University and USC Marshall School of Business, and is currently a Visiting Fellow at the London School of Economics. She has received awards for excellence in teaching, reviewing, and research, and her work has impact through direct and recurring engagement with leadership in universities, foundations, and research-intensive organizations. Her research has been published in leading journals, including Research Policy, Journal of Management Studies, European Management Review, Industry and Innovation, Innovation: Organization & Management, Social Studies of Science, and Nature Reviews Drug Discovery.
