Innovating service and platform strategies for resilient firms

Associate Professor Thomas Frandsen at Copenhagen Business School’s Department of Operations Management explores how industrial companies evolve from products to integrated service offerings. He contributes to the Driving Competitiveness Through Servitization research initiative, collaborating with Danish firms across sectors to design service architectures and operational strategies that extend product lifecycles and enhance customer proximity.

His empirical research spans service modularity, servitization, digital platforms, and process technology—often through bibliometric studies and survey data rooted in industry collaboration. Recent publications include a chapter in the Elgar Encyclopedia of Pricing on pricing digital services in B2B, and a 2024 Technovation article on reframing processes during digital servitization.

Thomas also examines the intersection of modularity and additive manufacturing (3D printing), and co-authored work on transformation of business programs to build adaptive capability in education. As PhD coordinator within CBS’s Doctoral School, he also steers doctoral-level development and supervision.

Driven by a commitment to innovation, Thomas bridges academic insight and industry practice—preparing both businesses and future professionals to adapt to rapidly changing service ecosystems.
