Carsten Ørts Hansen

My research brings together economic rationality and institutional sociology to strengthen how organizations make decisions that shape society. I explore how calculations — from investment models to performance management and accounting practices — influence not only efficiency and value creation but also responsibility, sustainability, and long-term strategic thinking. 

As co-founder of CBS Maritime, I work to bridge academia and the maritime sector. Through this platform, I foster collaboration between researchers, industry partners and public institutions to address key challenges in shipping, global trade and maritime transformation. 

I contribute actively to CBS through project leadership, teaching and academic development. My ambition is to make economic thinking a tool for societal progress — supporting organizations in navigating complexity while enhancing both competitiveness and social responsibility.
