Course content

Innovations in healthcare arise in a variety of contexts. Firms use innovation as an instrument of competition; non-profit organizations employ it to improve services or reduce costs; medical professionals innovate to enhance patient care; and patients and their informal caregivers often develop solutions to better cope with health conditions.

At the same time, the pace of technological advancement continues to accelerate. Artificial intelligence, robotics, and big data are transforming all industries, but their impact may be especially profound in healthcare. As these technologies evolve, hospitals and start-ups are discovering new ways to improve their services and, in some cases, fundamentally reshape the industry.

Across these diverse contexts, innovations are shaped by economic factors that influence how they are conceived, developed, implemented, and ultimately adopted by markets and users.

This course enables students to understand the fundamental principles and key concepts of innovation management, including essential management frameworks. It also explores different approaches to developing and sustaining an innovative culture, with a particular focus on the healthcare context. Furthermore, the course provides students with analytical tools that allow them to assess innovations and contribute to managerial decision-making from an economic perspective.
