It is with profound sadness that we mourn the passing of our colleague and PhD Fellow, Emmanuel Ngetich at the Department of Economics.

Alexander Christopher Sebald

Emmanuel was a bright young scholar with a strong background in energy and environmental economics and a deep interest in sustainable energy systems and the transition towards a low-carbon future. In his PhD project, he sought to understand how micro grids, renewable energy, storage, and demand flexibility could contribute to building more sustainable and resilient energy systems. As a member of the European doctoral network IDEAL4GREEN, he was part of a wider international research community and had already begun sharing his work at conferences in Barcelona and Stockholm. His research reflected not only his academic curiosity, but also his genuine commitment to contributing to a more sustainable future.

Originally from Kenya, he pursued his Master’s degree in Rwanda before taking the courageous step of moving to Copenhagen to begin his PhD and continue his academic journey with us.

During his time at the Department of Economics, Emmanuel became a valued member of our community. His passing has come as a deep shock, and he will be greatly missed by his fellow PhD students, other colleagues, and all those who got to know him during his time here.

His time with us was far too short, but he became part of the life of our department and of the lives of the colleagues and fellow PhD students around him.

We are grateful to have known him, and we will remember him with warmth and sadness. Our deepest sympathies are with his family and loved ones in Kenya.

Emmanuel will be deeply missed.
