Energy Green transition Climate Infrastructure

Primary research areas

Sector coupling and renewable hydrogen

Renewable hydrogen and green fuels from sector coupling technologies are crucial for the defossilisation of the industrial, long-distance transportation and heavy-duty transportation sectors.

Energy infrastructure development

The energy transportation and distribution networks require a development that enables the realisation of the energy transition.

Energy market design

The market design and regulatory framework must promote and support the development of the necessary infrastructure and business models.

Energy system analysis

The climate-neutral energy system drives the design of energy infrastructures and business models associated with the application of renewable hydrogen and green fuels.

I create opportunities for the green transition

Johannes Giehl is a Postdoc at the Copenhagen School of Energy Infrastructure at the Copenhagen Business School. His research in energy system transformation focuses on renewable hydrogen and energy infrastructure development, energy economics and sector coupling business models.

He studied at the Technische Universität Berlin, the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in industrial engineering. The study focus of his master was on energy management and energy system modeling. The research of his PhD project at the chair of Energy and Resource Management at the Technische Universität Berlin focuses on the changes to the energy system and infrastructures due to the energy transition and the opportunity for new business models and the political, regulatory measures that promote them.

Recent research projects

Nord_H2ub

The hydrogen sector benefits from combined efforts to efficiently exploit the potential. With partners from the Nordics, we derive a pathway for a hydrogen value chain focusing on the maritime sector.

Markets, Policies, and Business Models for Green Fuels

The project assesses the market potential for hydrogen and green fuels. We focus on the short-term operations of PtX and the long-term market design, regulation of green fuels.
