New collaboration to engage students in the green transition
CBS Green Office and the student-driven innovation hub Station are launching RELATE, a new project designed to enhance students' sustainability competences and engagement in sustainable solutions. The Novo Nordisk Foundation supports the initiative with DKK 4.4 million over the next three years
CBS Green Office and the innovation hub Station are joining forces on RELATE (Responsible Learning for the Green Transition in Higher Education), a project that aims to deepen students' understanding of sustainability and give them hands-on experience in turning knowledge into action.
Through new learning programmes, workshops, projects and events, students from higher education institutions across Greater Copenhagen will have the opportunity to work on real-world societal challenges alongside researchers, lecturers and external partners.
As CBS' green transition hub, Green Office will help develop and test new learning formats that connect research and education with practice, giving students the tools to contribute actively to the green transition.
The project has received DKK 4.4 million in funding from the Novo Nordisk Foundation and will run for the next three years.
Students will develop solutions to real-world challenges
RELATE will enhance students' knowledge, agency and practical experience of working with sustainable solutions. Through workshops, learning programmes, projects and events, students will have the opportunity to address current societal challenges in collaboration with researchers, lecturers and external partners.
Students will also play an active role in shaping the project's activities. The goal is to create learning experiences that support their studies while providing valuable experience they can draw on throughout their careers.
“Students play a vital role in the green transition. Through RELATE, we will explore how extracurricular activities can help students bring their academic knowledge, ideas and engagement into play alongside researchers, lecturers and external partners. I also hope the project will inspire new ideas and initiatives across our educational institutions,” Jens Riemer
Head of CBS Green Office.
Supporting CBS' sustainability efforts
For CBS, the project provides an opportunity to build on the university's sustainability efforts across research and education as well as collaboration with external stakeholders.
Through RELATE, CBS Green Office will help develop and test new learning formats that can enhance students' green competences and make it easier for universities to work systematically with sustainability.
The project will also document which approaches best support student engagement and action in the green transition, allowing lessons learned to be shared across the higher education sector.
Collaboration across educational institutions
A key element of RELATE is the establishment of a network for lecturers and employees across educational institutions. The aim is to expand knowledge sharing and support the development of new sustainability-focused learning formats.
The project builds on the experience of CBS Green Office and Station, which for several years have worked to engage students in interdisciplinary communities, projects and collaborations with organisations beyond the university sector.
“We are delighted that the Novo Nordisk Foundation has chosen to support RELATE and invest in students' opportunities to engage actively in the green transition. Through the project, we want to create new learning environments where students can turn knowledge into action and become co-creators of the solutions of the future,” says Thomas Aaboe Fredholm, Head of Secretariat at Station.
