The shipping industry faces many business challenges and significant decisions. While the abundance of data creates opportunities for business leaders to make better decisions, extracting value from business data is far from straightforward.

This course provides you with a solid understanding of how to turn data into valuable business insights and improve decision-making in shipping. The course focuses on deploying analytical methods to answer essential shipping business questions, including freight trading, pricing, revenue, chartering, investment and sustainability.

The course is ideal for students who want to advance their analytics skills, and more importantly, to apply different methods to collect and analyze data to inform business decisions. Examples, cases, and real data in the shipping industry will be used throughout the course, but the analytical approaches can be applied in a broader context. Upon completion of the course, students will be well prepared for the analytic role in the shipping-related industry or further academic studies in related disciplines. What you will learn

The overall aim of this course is to develop the students’ business analytics skills in order to support strategic and operational decision-making in the shipping business. By the end of the course, the student should be able to:

Understand the strategic value of data-driven analytics in shipping business
Demonstrate an understanding of business data analysis processes
Collect, clean, describe and visualize the shipping data appropriately
Apply the appropriate data methods to analyze specific shipping business questions
Interpret and evaluate the results and derive meaningful business insights
Communicate insights from quantitative analysis clearly to a business audience in written and verbal form

The are no prerequisites. Fundamentals of the methodologies will be provided during the course.
