Course content
This course will provide students a detailed introduction to core theories and principles in firm strategy and how they relate to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Achieving the SDGs has been viewed as the key societal challenge with an increasing pressure on firms to contribute to their advancement. On the one side, the goal of this course is to provide a framework for understanding the main elements of strategy, including the external and internal context of the organization. On the other side, the course will faciliate critical discussions and reflections on the role and commitment of different types of organizations and the SDGs.
In relation to Nordic Nine
The course 'Business Strategy and the SDGs' gives the students deep business knowledge placed in a broad context (NN1). The course equips students with the capabilities to recognize humanity’s challenges while developing the entrepreneurial knowledge to help resolve them (NN3). The students learn to balance competitiveness in business and compassion towards society (NN4), while addressing ethical dilemmas of strategy (NN5). Linking strategy concepts with the SDGs develops the capacity of students to advice industry and public actors on how to produce prosperity while protecting the prosperity of next generations (NN7).
