At CBS Research Support Office (RSO), we are looking for a Team Leader who gets energy from leading highly skilled professionals, building strong teams and turning strategic priorities into excellent research support.

CBS is home to internationally leading researchers and research environments, and we continuously strive to strengthen our ability to attract external research funding to support their ambitions and further develop research excellence across the university.

You will lead RSO – a team of 14 experienced Research Advisers at the heart of CBS’s efforts to attract external research funding and strengthen research environments across the university. The team works closely with researchers, departments and research leadership to identify funding opportunities, develop ambitious and competitive proposals and create the best possible conditions for externally funded research at CBS.

RSO combines deep expertise in national and international research funding with considerable professional autonomy and a strong culture of trust, collaboration and knowledge sharing. As the funding landscape becomes increasingly competitive and strategically important, the team’s expertise plays an important role in strengthening CBS’s research ambitions and supporting researchers in turning excellent ideas into successful projects.

RSO is part of Research and PhD Support, which consists of two teams: RSO and PhD Support, where five PhD Advisers are led by their own Team Leader. Together, we provide specialist support across key parts of the research and PhD landscape at CBS.

As Team Leader for RSO, you will have two closely connected roles. You will lead and develop your own strong team, and you will be an active member of the leadership team for Research and PhD Support, working closely with the Head of Office and the Team Leader for PhD Support.

The Head of Office has the overall responsibility for the strategic direction and development of Research and PhD Support, working closely with the Dean of Research, Innovation and Societal Impact and the wider CBS leadership. As Team Leader, you will be an important partner in this work – bringing your perspective and the expertise of RSO into strategic discussions and helping translate CBS’s ambitions and agreed priorities into development and action within RSO.

Your most important responsibility is people leadership.

You will lead experienced specialists with deep expertise and a high degree of professional autonomy. They do not need a manager to have all the answers. They need a leader who listens, creates clarity, makes decisions when needed and gives people the trust and space to take responsibility and succeed.

You will lead with empathy, openness and trust – but also with clear expectations and priorities. You will be close enough to understand the work and the people, while giving colleagues room to use and develop their expertise. You know when to challenge, when to support, when to decide – and when to step back and let others take responsibility.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Leading, supporting and developing 14 experienced Research Advisers, with responsibility for development, performance and well-being.
• Setting clear priorities within the team, allocating resources and delegating responsibility.
• Providing strong professional and operational leadership without needing to be the expert on everything.
• Creating the conditions for knowledge sharing, collaboration and professional development across RSO.
• Ensuring that RSO continues to deliver high-quality, coherent and relevant support to researchers and research environments.
• Working closely with the Head of Office and the Team Leader for PhD Support and contributing actively to a strong and cohesive leadership team.
• Bringing RSO’s expertise and perspective into the strategic development of Research and PhD Support and helping turn agreed priorities into concrete initiatives and ways of working.
• Building strong relationships with researchers, academic leaders and colleagues across CBS and strengthening collaboration between RSO and the wider organisation.
• Looking ahead and helping RSO respond to developments and opportunities in the national and international research funding landscape.

You do not need to be the strongest funding specialist in the room. But you do need to understand the world we operate in.

Research funding is increasingly competitive and strategically important. We are therefore looking for someone with a good understanding of the research and funding landscape and sufficient familiarity with research development and pre-award activities to ask the right questions, understand trade-offs and make informed decisions.

You also enjoy being part of a leadership team. You bring your own perspective and are willing to challenge constructively, while recognising that good leadership is a shared endeavour. You listen, collaborate and take responsibility for decisions and priorities once they have been agreed.

• Solid people leadership experience, preferably from a complex, knowledge-intensive or specialist organisation.
• Experience leading highly specialised professionals with considerable professional autonomy.
• The ability to combine strong people leadership with sound operational management and an interest in strategic development.
• Good understanding of the university or research sector and the conditions under which research operates.
• Knowledge of research funding, research development and pre-award processes.
• Strong organisational judgement and the ability to translate broader priorities into meaningful action for a team.
• The confidence to prioritise, delegate and make decisions in a complex environment.
• Strong collaborative and relational skills and the ability to navigate an organisation with many different professional perspectives and stakeholders.
• A leadership style characterised by trust, integrity, empathy and clarity.
• Curiosity, a development-oriented mindset and a genuine interest in creating the best possible conditions for both colleagues and researchers.

Salary and terms of employment

Employment and salary are based on the collective agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC).

The position is full-time (37 hours per week), and we hope to appoint the successful candidate as soon as possible.
