In order to obtain the PhD degree, Ignacio Descazeaux Godoy has submitted his thesis entitled:

Quantum Computing as an IT Artifact "in Articulation"
A Semiotic Perspective

Quantum computers are a novel technology leveraging quantum physics’ properties for computation. They hold significant promises mobilizing important investments in the private and public sectors. However, they remain largely experimental. This thesis examines how discourse constructs quantum computing as an IT artifact through four qualitative studies in practitioner and academic discourse. Drawing on semiotics, three mechanisms for meaning-making were identified: “semiotic construction,” “conceptual reconfiguration,” and “representational differentiation.” This thesis conceptualizes IT artifacts “in articulation,” arguing that discourse constitutes artifacts before material stabilization, and highlights technological maturity and “quantum intuition” for studying emerging technologies and informing organizational decisions.

The thesis will be available from research.cbs.dk

The CBS PhD School will host a reception, which will take place immediately after the defence.
