Performance measurement and management in supply chains

How performance is measured, evaluated and managed across organisational boundaries, and how measurement technologies, from supplier evaluation systems and ERP to big data and blockchain, both enable and constrain the performance they seek to govern.

Governing sustainable supply networks and the procurement function

How buying firms organise Scope 3 decarbonisation and sustainability governance across multitier supply networks under incomplete data and limited control, and how procurement develops, gains acceptance and becomes strategically embedded within complex organisations.

Risk, resilience and disruption in supply chains

How organisations sense, interpret and respond to supply chain disruption, from pandemics to shifting trade conditions, and how companies build the flexibility and resilience capabilities that turbulent supply environments require.

Organising performance, sustainability and resilience in supply networks

My research examines how companies measure, govern and organise their supply chains, and how procurement and supply management sustain credible action under conditions of incomplete information, competing demands and limited control. I am particularly interested in how management technologies such as performance measurement, supplier evaluation, digital systems and sustainability standards shape organising and performance in supply networks, and in how managers interpret and respond to the tensions these create.

My recent work examines how buying firms organise Scope 3 governance in supply network decarbonisation (Journal of Supply Chain Management, 2026) and how the purchasing and supply management function develops, gains legitimacy and becomes strategically embedded in complex organisations (Journal of Purchasing and Supply Management, 2026). My research is published in leading international journals, including six contributions in the International Journal of Operations & Production Management and Journal of Supply Chain Management, alongside work in the International Journal of Production Economics and Industrial Marketing Management.

Bridging research and practice is central to how I work. I lead the Strategic Procurement Initiative (SPI), an open industry–academia network advancing procurement research and practice in Denmark, and I co-founded and chair the Supply Chain Leaders Forum (SCLF), which for 15 years has brought together supply chain executives, policymakers and researchers at CBS. I collaborate with Danish industry on longitudinal research on supply chain resilience and sensemaking, and on analyses of how supply chain conditions inform industrial policy. I am author of the leading Danish textbook Logistik & Supply Chain Management, now in its 5th edition.

Before entering academia, I held management and senior consultant positions at Bang & Olufsen, KPMG Consulting and PwC Consulting, working with supply chain development in practice. Today I teach supply chain management, procurement and performance management at graduate and executive level, and I supervise PhD and MSc students working at the frontier of procurement, sustainability and supply chain transformation.
