Marie Curie Individual Fellowship Grant: AnthroTax: Tax evasion for market control: Predatory economies in practice

Marie Curie Individual Fellow: Social Anthropologist Dr Robin Smith
Associate Professor Karen Boll, The Department of Organization (IOA) will be the host

Associate Professor Karen Boll will host the Marie Curie grant project AnthroTax: Tax evasion for market control: Predatory economies in practice. The fellow, social anthropologist Dr Robin Smith, will carry out the research project at CBS for two years. Using ethnographic methods and business studies, the project examines the formal and informal economic practices of debt resolution prevalent in the private business sector of Croatia today. Using the agro-food sector as a case study, Dr Smith will analyze how tax evasion by large corporations impacts small family businesses and shapes local economies. She adopts the perspective of winemakers in the northwest region of Istria whose daily business lives are fundamentally transformed by such practices to theorize the kind of capitalism emerging in post-socialist Europe.
