Center for Organizational Research on Impact (CORI)

CORI conducts excellent and impactful organizational research on the relationship between academia and its societal stakeholders. We investigate multilevel organizational processes from an inside-out perspective on how academia impacts societal stakeholders, and from an outside-in perspective on how societal stakeholders impact academia.

CORI is established to support CBS’ impact agenda and to create synergy among several larger Excellent Science grants allocated to its core members.

CORI aspires to become an international hub for excellent and impactful organizational research. Its purpose is to investigate:

a) the societal impact of organizational research

b) the impact of large-scale funding on the university's outcomes and organizational form

c) the use of multimodal communication for civic engagement and mission-driven research.

In pursuit of its mission, CORI conducts excellent and impactful organizational research on the relationship between academia and its societal stakeholders. We privilege two lines of inquiry:

(1) an inside-out perspective on how academia impacts societal stakeholders,

(2) an outside-in perspective on how societal stakeholders impact academia.

Both lines of inquiry investigate multilevel organizational processes and their outcomes for academia.

Research conducted from an inside-out perspective investigates the uptake and use of organizational research in broader society. We examine how business managers, public policy makers, consultants, and other private and public stakeholders relate to organizational research in their work and translate organizational research into practice. We also make organizational research available to societal stakeholders through civic engagement and mission-driven initiatives to support social inclusion.

Research conducted from an outside-in perspective examines the impact of external stakeholders on academia. Our investigations focus on the impact of private foundations and companies that finance academic research with very significant sums. We compare processes and their outcomes across academic fields, universities, and national contexts to elucidate how private stakeholders are shaping academic knowledge production and academic careers. We also formulate recommendations to relevant public and private stakeholders, using novel means of communication.

CORI disseminates its research findings through leading academic outlets, notably AJG 4/4* publications and books from recognized publishers. We also use novel channels, such as webinars, podcasts, short videos, movies, blogs/v-logs, social media postings, research summaries, and civic engagement for social inclusion. In addition, we pilot new forms of societal engagement aimed at enhancing the impact of organizational research on broader society and conduct research analysis of our initiatives.
