Sasha Ma­h­er

I am a political anthropologist whose research examines the leadership and governance of climate change. My work focuses on how climate action is organized, financed, and made governable through carbon markets and climate finance, with particular attention to practices of risk management and the role of intermediaries. I am interested in the actors, institutions, and forms of expertise that translate climate policy and commitments into financial and political practice, and in how these processes shape authority and decision-making in the transition to a low-carbon economy. I have conducted research on Asian and European carbon markets. 

Before joining CBS, I worked at the University of Auckland and the Environmental Defence Society in New Zealand. Prior to entering academia, I spent more than a decade in a large global agribusiness, where I held senior executive roles. This combination of academic, policy, and corporate experience informs my research and teaching on climate governance, markets, and organisational practice.
