Primary research areas

Economic ideas and policy paradigms

In IPE, economic ideas shape how crises are defined, which goals are pursued and which policy instruments are seen as legitimate. I study how these paradigms shift, and whether crises produce real change or only recalibration.

Macroeconomic expertise and international organisations

In IPE, international organisations are political authorities as well as technical ones. I examine how they build, justify and revise their economic models and diagnoses, and how their public discourse relates to the policies they promote and require in practice.

Creating and capturing value in global value chains

How value is created and distributed along global production networks, from supplier firms and workers to lead firms and shareholders.

Understanding how ideas, expertise and production shape the global economy

Ideas, expertise and the authority of economic knowledge

I study how economic ideas shape policy and how expertise gains, holds and loses authority. My work examines how institutions define economic problems, justify their responses and revise their thinking in times of crisis. I am also interested in how economic knowledge is produced and contested outside established institutions, and how these alternative understandings influence public and political debate. Together, these interests address a broader question: who gets to define the economy, and what happens when that authority is challenged?
