Biography

Der-Ting Huang is an Assistant Professor of International Business at Copenhagen Business School.

Her research investigates the relationship between firms’ investment strategies and their external environments. Embracing a multi-level spirit, she aims to understand how multinational corporations (MNCs) navigate and respond to diverse institutional environments across different levels.

Her work has been recognized with several prestigious awards. She was the winner of 2024 AIB Best Doctoral Dissertation Proposal Award and the finalist of 2024 AIB Alan Rugman Most Promising Scholar Award. Her dissertation is supported by the Strategy Research Foundation's Will Mitchell Dissertation Research Grant by the Strategic Management Society and the TOP Grants by the National Science and Technology Council, ROC (Taiwan).

Rethinking Multinationality and Location Strategy

Why do some MNCs avoid established industry clusters when operating in a host country? Der-Ting Huang, who recently joined CBS as an Assistant Professor in Fall 2025, studies how MNCs leverage dispersed resources to support operations outside of industry clusters.

This research was also featured in an international scholarly event. It was a true homecoming as Huang was invited back to deliver her work at her undergraduate alma mater, National Chengchi University (NCCU). Her presentation offered fresh insights into how multinationality shapes where MNCs choose to invest, and why those choices matter.

“It was meaningful to visit NCCU again as I prepared to begin the next stage of my academic career at CBS," Huang said. "I appreciated the opportunity to reconnect with faculty who shaped my early academic development.”
