EU Lighed Velfærd Trivsel Work-life balance Analyse

Primary research areas

Quality of life

My research examines how people’s quality of life develops across the life course, with a particular focus on well-being and agency.

Work, care and leisure

I study how paid work, care work and discretionary activities such as leisure intersect in people’s everyday lives. I am particularly interested in leisure as an underexamined topic in work-life balance.

Social inequality and welfare

People’s everyday lives differ across gender and social class. My research examines how welfare institutions and public infrastructure can sustain a good life for all.

Longitudinal and comparative methods

Methodically, I use longitudinal and/or comparative approaches to study how people’s lives change across time and societies.

Quality of life through the lens of everyday life

My research focuses on people’s quality of life across the life course. I am interested in how everyday activities shape people’s well-being and agency, and how their engagements in work, care and leisure are influenced by welfare institutions. Methodically, I am specialized in longitudinal and comparative methods.

At Copenhagen Business School, I study together with colleagues the intersections between work, care and leisure in adults’ lives, with a particular focus on the role of leisure for work-life balance. My previous research at the University of Vienna focused on young people’s lives and showed that leisure is important for young people to enhance their well-being and agency.

My research helps to improve our understanding of the social conditions enabling a good life for all. Through a range of knowledge exchange activities, I share my findings with stakeholders and the broader public.

Recent research projects

AGILE - Achieving Work-Life Balance: Citizens, Policies, and Firm Perspectives

This project, financed by the VELUX foundation, focuses on how work-life and leisure are prioritized and combined in different countries. Firstly, it highlights citizen perspectives on work-life balance (including leisure) in particular what their demands and preferences are. Secondly, it analyses the extent to which EU regulation and policy facilitates work-life balance policy in different countries. Thirdly, it analyses how firms in different sectors (and in different countries) enable or hinder work-life balance.
