Primary research areas

Climate risk and credit risk

Are polluting firms more likely to default? And do courts treat them differently in bankruptcy? I study how climate transition risk shows up in credit markets and corporate bankruptcy, using emissions, environmental violations, and satellite data.

How people react to climate disasters

What happens when a hurricane, heatwave, wildfire or flood hits close to home? I study how extreme weather changes the beliefs and decisions of financial analysts and corporate insiders and what that means for financial markets.

Green transition in small businesses

Why do small firms hold back on energy-efficient technologies? In a field experiment with Portuguese SMEs, I test which barriers matter most and what helps firms go green.

Sovereign debt

Does it pay for a country to keep repaying its debt when others default? I study the long-run costs and benefits of repayment, from Colombia in the 1980s to today's debt crises.

I study how climate risk shapes financial decisions

I am a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Department of Finance. My research focuses on climate finance, corporate finance, and sovereign debt.

My research examines how:

  • climate risk translates into credit risk and default;
  • extreme weather affects corporate forecasts and financial markets;
  • policies can accelerate the green transition among small businesses;
  • countries benefit from repaying their debts.
