Primary research areas
Digital Innovation
Digital technology allows organizations to rethink how to create and capture value. I study the ensuing organizational transformations when digital technology is used for all sorts of activities from product development, to technology management, and business model design.
Platforms and Ecosystems
The increased use of digital technology to implement multi-sided business models has reshaped industries and society. I study the process and outcomes of these dynamics, focusing on firm-level phenomena such as innovation, growth, and competition.
Trace Data Methods
I am drawn to mixed methods often including computational techniques in order to analyze digital trace data on empirical phenomena at great scale and detail.
Digital Innovation in a non-digital world
My main research interest focuses on digital innovation in a physical world, focusing on firm-level dynamics such as growth, innovation, and competition in digital platforms, technology ventures, and new product development.
Digital technology has profound implications for the organization of economic activity in firms as well as the wider society. In my work, I focus on digital innovation processes as well as outcomes and am particularly interested in digital technology use within and across organizations.
Along these lines, I concentrate of four main areas:
- Digital platforms and the ecosystems of actors and technologies they create
- Digital technology-driven entrepreneurship
- The transformation of incumbent firms
- The development of hybrid physical-digital products and artefacts, with particular attention to how digital and physical components interact in shaping innovation outcomes.
