Primary research areas

Cultural Capital Externalities

How consumption of culture brings private benefits, such as a deeper understanding of oneself and a broadened perspective, and how these spill over into society through greater tolerance, trust, and social cohesion.

Art Museums as Cultural Institutions

Seeking a deeper understanding of art museums and their role in the cultural value-creating process, including the factors that promote and inhibit it.

Integrating Economics and Humanities

Exploring how integrating economic tools with humanities perspectives offers a path to identify, formalise, and measure value when outcomes are hard to observe and quantify.

My research explores the value of art and culture, and how cultural institutions shape the value-creating process.

Art carries cultural, social, and historical meaning through which individuals can explore their own lives, challenge assumptions, and access new perspectives, which in turn can strengthen society through greater trust, tolerance, and social cohesion. Cultural institutions play a central role in this process, mediating how people engage with and extract meaning from art.

I study these mechanisms using art museums as an institutional lens, integrating economic tools with humanities perspectives to identify and measure value that can otherwise be difficult to quantify. Together, I hope my research can help museum management, cultural policy, and other market participants better understand and utilise the value of art and culture.
