Resiliency – theory and practice
Resiliency as a concept originally stems from the physical sciences, where it denotes the ability of a material to bend, but not break if subjected to an exogenous shock. The concept has been adopted into the social sciences and used to study a variety of phenomena, including the ability of communities to withstand and bounce back from shocks like terrorist attacks and natural disasters. Professor Anja Dalgaard-Nielsen has been working as a practitioner and as a researcher on issues of national security, safety and organizational resilience for more than two decades. In her inaugural lecture, she presents research- and practice-based insights on resilience and leadership in times of heightened insecurity and risks.
