Learning Objectives Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to demonstrate the following: Knowledge Students will be able to:
- Explain and critically evaluate major theories and concepts from business and management studies, sociology, and political economy, and assess their relevance for understanding business–society relations in African contexts.
- Critically engage with scholarship produced by researchers based in African universities and evaluate how different epistemological and disciplinary traditions shape understandings of business and society.
- Analyze how contemporary challenges—including conflict, technological change, climate-related risks, and shifting global markets—create new opportunities and shape the development of African businesses.
- Describe the diversity of African business environments and their connections to global economic, social, and political processes.
- Discuss competing perspectives on entrepreneurship, innovation, development, and the role of firms in African societies.
- Demonstrate appropriate academic English skills, including: correct referencing, clear argumentation and correct usage and definition of key concepts.
